Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11)

Level 1 and Level 2 Awards in Personal and Social Effectiveness

Summary

The Level 1 and Level 2 Awards in Personal and Social Effectiveness are designed for Year 10 and Year 11 students, respectively. These awards aim to cultivate a diverse range of transferable skills, including effective communication, organisational abilities, goal setting for personal development, teamwork, problem solving, and emotional intelligence. Students will acquire these skills through engaging in practical tasks and building a portfolio of evidence.

By successfully completing these qualifications, students not only equip themselves with a valuable skillset that will serve them well as they transition into adulthood and the workforce, but also gain the confidence to pursue and achieve their life aspirations. Moreover, these awards are designed with a focus on promoting mental well-being. By fostering opportunities for physical activity, encouraging acts of kindness and connection with others, facilitating the learning of new skills, and promoting mindfulness, these qualifications empower students to appreciate the present moment and lead fulfilling lives.

Course Details

Each qualification level is comprised of three units of study:

  • Developing Myself and My Performance
  • Working with Others
  • Problem Solving

Throughout the course, students will be engaged in a diverse range of challenges and activities, designed to empower them to take ownership of their personal goals. With appropriate guidance and support, students will produce a portfolio of evidence, showcasing their progress. The portfolio will include written components such as action plans, reflections, and evaluations, along with tangible evidence of successfully completed practical tasks.

Each unit will explore distinct focus topics. For instance, at Level 1, the 'Developing Myself and My Performance' unit will centre on 'Health and Wellbeing', whereas at Level 2, the same unit will shift its focus to 'International Links'. This deliberate variation in focus topics at different levels allows students to broaden their perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of diverse subjects.

By structuring the course in this manner, we aim to provide students with a well-rounded learning experience that fosters personal growth, teamwork skills, and effective problem-solving capabilities.
