Judo is an integral part of Kingsley School, featured in both our PE curriculum and community club programs. We also provide a pathway to Bath University for 6th form students through the DiSE program. Our judo training at Kingsley extends beyond physical development; with pride we help build mental resilience, respect, and self-confidence. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced Judoka, our effective coaching methods and supportive environment will help you gain the confidence to tackle any challenges. Name: Simon Ward
Position: Head of Judo
Qualifications: Level 5 British Judo Association Coach – International Judo Federation Academy Instructor Award – MSc Advanced Sports Coaching Degree with Sheffield Hallam University
Bio: Simon has dedicated his entire professional career to the sports industry. He began as a fitness instructor before transitioning to leisure centre management in Torquay. Simon also gained experience working in school sports partnerships throughout the southwest, as well as with organisations such as the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and British Judo. Simon has a successful career in Judo, earning national and international recognition before becoming a coach in 2002. He has achieved all five British Judo coaching qualifications and is one of only 12 coaches in England to attain Level 5. He also earned the International Judo Federations Instructor award, which is sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee in 2022 and completed his MSc Degree in Advanced Sports Performance Coaching from Sheffield Hallam University. Simon is a highly accomplished coach, having successfully trained 19 Judoka who went on to win National Judo Titles. In 2017, he led the England U18 judo team to victory in the UK School Games. Simon is currently serving as a Great Britain Support coach for the National Team. Additionally, he is the Performance Director within the Western Area’s Judo Association and the Judo Academy at Kingsley School on a local level.
