Why Study Hospitality? Unlocking a World of Opportunities

Discover the Benefits of studying Hospitality

At Kingsley Devon, we believe that a hospitality education is more than just learning to cook and serve. It's about developing a diverse range of skills that can benefit students in all aspects of their lives.

Life Skills for the Future

Our Year 12 Hospitality students have recently completed a 5-week intensive block focused on Spanish cuisine. They've honed their culinary skills by creating delectable dishes like Gazpacho, Paella, Spanish Omelette, Pisto con huevo, and Churros. But beyond the practical skills, our hospitality programme also cultivates:

  • Creativity and Innovation: Experimenting with flavours, plating techniques, and menu design fosters creativity.
  • Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Managing kitchen operations, troubleshooting issues, and adapting to unexpected challenges are essential skills.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Working effectively in teams, and communicating clearly are key to success in the hospitality industry.
  • Time Management and Organisation: Balancing multiple tasks, prioritising responsibilities, and working efficiently are crucial for any hospitality professional.
  • Attention to Detail: From precise measurements to meticulous presentation, attention to detail is paramount in the culinary arts.
  • Budgeting: Learning to cook delicious meals at home can save you a significant amount of money  - useful for time at Uni and beyond!
  • Stress Relief: Cooking can be a therapeutic activity, helping you unwind and de-stress from academic pressures. In the future, preparing and sharing meals together is one of life's joys.
  • Healthy Eating Habits: By learning to cook, you can make healthier food choices and maintain a balanced diet.

A World of Career Opportunities

A hospitality education opens doors to a wide range of exciting career paths:

  • Chef: From fine dining to fast-casual, chefs are the heart of the culinary world.
  • Restaurant Manager: Overseeing operations, managing staff, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Hotel Manager: Leading hotel teams, managing accommodations, and providing exceptional guest experiences.
  • Event Planner: Organising and executing events, from weddings to corporate functions.
  • Food and Beverage Consultant: Advising on menu development, beverage pairings, and restaurant operations.
  • Food Stylist: Creating visually appealing dishes for photo shoots and videos.
  • Food Writer and Critic: Sharing culinary knowledge and experiences through writing and reviews.

Whether you're already handy in the kitchen at home or in the boarding house, or a complete beginner, studying hospitality can enrich life after school and set you up for success in the future. So, if you're passionate about food, travel, and people, studying hospitality could be the perfect choice for you.
