Water Safety and Swimming at Kingsley School Devon

Water Safety and Swimming at Kingsley School Devon

Living on the stunning North Devon coast, access to our beautiful beaches is a privilege. However, it's crucial that our youngest pupils learn about water safety and develop essential swimming skills at the earliest opportunity. At Kingsley School Devon, we understand the importance of this and have incorporated weekly swimming lessons into our Pre-Prep curriculum.

Young swimmers

Every Monday afternoon, our pupils in Pre-Prep head off for a fun filled outing to the swimming pool in Northam. These lessons offer numerous benefits, supporting their development in a variety of ways:

  • Teaches Essential Water Safety Skills: Learning to swim is paramount for water safety, especially where we live on the North Devon coast. Our lessons emphasise essential skills like floating, treading water, and moving through the water confidently.
  • Physical Health and Fitness: Swimming is fantastic exercise that strengthens young muscles and enhances flexibility.
  • Confidence: Overcoming challenges in the water builds self-confidence and resilience
  • Cognitive Development: Swimming requires coordination and balance which contribute to cognitive development.
  • Lifelong Healthy Habits: Learning to swim from an early age can help cultivate a lifelong love for physical activity and healthy living.

At Kingsley School Devon, we prioritise water safety for our youngest pupils. Our Pre-Prep staff are passionate about these weekly swimming sessions, actively participating in the lessons alongside our children. This hands on approach encourages a supportive and fun learning environment, helping our little ones build confidence to become strong swimmers.
